The one of the most notable characteristics distinguished tracked vehicles fromwheeled vehicles was that the tracked driving system to achieve the walk of theself-surfaced road was utilized and made sure the capability, to tracked vehicles, of thefield driving and of the climbing obstacle, and the maneuver performance. As therequirements of the maneuverability to the modern tracked vehicles have been advanced, the phenomena to out of the gear have frequently taken place in the process of suchadverse driving conditions as the lean-to driving and the sharp curve in soft road, andhave made that the vehicles were deprived of the maneuverability and to be the basketcase, and have influenced the traffic ability, the combat task, etc.In view of the dynamic characteristics of the drive system, the paper focuses onanalysis of track moving off the wheel and makes the theoretical analysis on brakingcapability, steering qualities, stability of driving on slopes and terrain vehicle mechanicsof the tracked drive system. The drive system of tracked vehicles is modeled andanalyzed by the multi-mode dynamics analysis software RecurDyn and thethree-dimensional model software Pro/E, various kinds of the loads of and constraints ofthe one were defined, and the theoretical analysis on dynamic characteristics to thetracked vehicles drive system was completed. The paper conducts the dynamics simulation, which aims at the test effect of thevehicle suspension devices and track tensioning devices on maneuvering characteristicsand rideability under former two conditions, of on rideability under the condition ofdriving in solid or dry sand. The simulation shows that when driving in the softground(dry sand), dynamic responses are more complex than that on hard ground whichincreases the risk of track moving off the wheel and rollover.Through the research of steering mechanism, the paper further analyzes theinfluence of the typical pavement conditions, tensioner force of track, and steeringradius on steering qualities. This can be a reference improved the stability of high speedsteering and optimizing design of the track drive system. The results, by the virtual prototype technology, shows that the multi-body dynamics response analysis work of tracked vehicles was completed, and that itssimulation data provided the efficient evidence to solve the problem taken off wheels inthe process of vehicles turn and the structure optimization design research.
