In distribution network fault, the most likely fault type is single-phase ground fault. At present, there are many positioning methods about single-phase ground fault. The traveling wave fault location method can not be affected by the factors such as system parameter the change of system operation mode、 line asymmetry and so on. It is easy to achieve. This article using PLC to design a multiterminal traveling wave fault location method based on A-type traveling wave fault location and B-type traveling wave fault location.The multiterminal traveling wave fault location based on PLC is an on-line fault location method. It uses power line carrier technology to catch the traveling wave signal’s time at each monitoring point, then according to the traveling wave signal’s differ time that received from each monitoring point by theoretical analysis to judge the fault point’s location rapidly.The basis of the multiterminal traveling wave fault location is effective and reliable communication. The article obtains the distribution network’s channel characteristics by testing distribution network’s analog circuits. It choose Spread Spectrum Communication as the communication mode by comparing with several carrier communication modes and uses PL3105to design the communication system’s hardware circuit, which includes power supply module、 power amplifier moduleand carrier receiver module. It also designs multiterminal traveling wave fault location system’s communication protocol, and compile programs for PL3105such as initialization prograrm serial communication program, carrier receives program and carrier sends program. At last, it completes the test about communication terminal and achieves communication within the communication terminals.
