In recent years, with the continuous raising of coal price, power industry keeps losing money year after year, the entire industry profit has dropped substantially, and the survival environment of thermal power enterprises is becoming increasingly severe. Therefore, saving energy, tapping the potential synergies has become one of the primary means of generation enterprises to profitability. In the thermal power plant, large high-voltage motor-driven pump and fan are the main power consumption devices, and the phenomenon of energy waste is very serious particularly with the changing load. Traditional adjustment of the fan and pump depends only on the adjustment of the baffle or valve open, which will lead to a lot of energy consumed in the throttling of the system pipe. Along with the continuous development of high-voltage motor frequency conversion technology, it has become the preferred approach of the thermal power plant to save energy, improve the production process and the operating environment. According to the actual operating situations of suction fan and condensate pump of Huadian Baotou power plant, the feasibility of high-voltage frequency conversion retrofit is studied in this paper. Meanwhile, a variety of modification schemes were compared, and a frequency conversion retrofit plan comply with the equipments of our factory is proposed. Lastly, the energy-saving effect after transformation is analyzed and the results show that the energy-saving effect of the transformation plan is quite notable.
