These days, cold, hard, huge, yet lifeless buildings have occupied the city space. As the bridge element that connects the buildings and the tender, warm, small yet living residents, urban landscape plays an important role. However, as technology and artificial intelligence develops, the development of urban landscape lacks characteristics, and it has ignored the education of common science knowledge. The method of design stays in the superficial level of technique and form, and it overlooks the pursuit of natural spirit and the legacy of culture. It is a living landscape that can inherit the culture, productive, and can improve the urban environment that the construction of city needs. Productive landscape is a new concept of urban landscape design based on the needs mentioned above, and it brings new direction and dynamics into urban landscape design.Though as a new theoretic and philosophic foundation that transfers designing method, productive landscape has the qualification of satisfying the new direction of urban space landscape planning, the practice of application is not so sufficient. The existing productive landscape in China and abroad is still at the stage of theoretic and exploration, and there are still problems in practice. To solve these problems, we need landscape planners and artists to keep exploring, the citizens to get involved and produce advices, and social organizations’ efficient assistance.This article sets out from the relationship between city and nature, and aims at satisfying citizen’s need for leisure, ecology, culture, education, and production. Its goal also includes helping bringing up an urban landscape system that has a wider horizon, and is sustainable. This article analyses productive landscape both in China and abroad, from different aspects such as aesthetics, culture, ecology, and economy. It coins the concept of urban productive landscape from a higher level, studies, and concludes the relating theories. Shanghai has a complicated urban green space, which has a system of several functions. The theoretic study of the approach of achieving the application of productive landscape in urban spaces and functional green spaces is especially important. The core of the article is to get a design scheme that applies to the vegetation design of productive landscape by studying productive vegetation system. Besides, this article categories urban productive landscape according to the criteria of urban green space system, analyses and studies their outer and inner environment, space organization, and human factors. Finally, this article will provide strategies for the application of productive landscape in urban green space of Shanghai.
