This paper introduces tandem warhead which uses precursory shaped charge to penetrate a hole, then the following kinetic energy projectile to blast, kill or penetrate again, this scheme can damage reinforced concrete target effectively. Theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, experimental research and etc. are used to systematically describe the mechanism and design method of the tandem warhead which uses the following projectile to penetrate after the precursory charge takes effect.Main contents in this paper are as follows:Firstly, the classification and characteristics of anti hard-target warhead are introduced, the development process and research status of tandem warhead at home and abroad are presented. Thus the research significance of tandem warhead can be seen.Chapter2presents the study on penetration mechanism of precursory shaped charge. Based on the classic theory of jet penetration and combined with some research conclusions given by M.held, the penetration theory of shaped charge jet is introduced; the relationship between jet and its penetration depth, hole diameter is analyzed. Chapter3introduces the design process of precursory charge. Based on AUTODYN-2D software, the numerical calculations of jet formation and penetration process are conducted; the structure of precursory charge is analyzed scientifically; the rationality of precursory charge design is validated by experiments.Chapter4carries out the research of the material and formation process of a new titanium alloy liner. Combined with relevant experiments, it is assumed that the special characteristics against the hard-target of the titanium alloy will provide a favorable material choice for the high-performance tandem warhead, and the titanium alloy will have a wide application prospect.Chapter5introduces the research on the action characteristics of the blast of the precursory charge upon the following projectile of tandem warhead based on AUTODYN-2D software. The shock overload and velocity reducing and other characteristics of the following projectile under the blast of the precursory charge are analyzed and validated by experiments which can provide evidence for the design of the joint of precursory and following parts, explosion-proof measures, stability of the following charge, structure of the following projectile and its fuse, and etc.Finally, based on expert systems of anti hard-target and fragment, chapter6optimizes the structure of the following projectile synthetically by taking matching relationship between precursory and following parts, attack angle of the missile, randomness of flying missile impact at target, reinforcement bars in the target, the improvement in penetration probability of the following projectile, etc. into consideration. In addition, by using fan shaped target experiment and relevant test, the rationality of the charge design of following projectile is validated.
