Terminal sensing-ammunition is a kind of smart ammunition being used attacking the top armor of tank, which were combined of advanced sensing technology and explosively formed penetrator (EFP) warhead, and has been widely used on different weapon platforms in many countries. EFP warhead technology is one of the key technologies of terminal sensing-ammunition, the performance of EFP is the critical factor of the weapon system. Many counties have made great effort to develop EFP technology.Based on former research and experiences of EFP warhead design, hydrodynamic numerical simulation method had used to study the EFP formation, flight and penetration of the prototype. To meet the special requirements of shape, weight and weight distribution of the prototype, a new kind combined-case had to be used, which were combined of two kind materials:steel and aluminum. The formation and penetration of EFP Warhead with different combined-case was simulated.The flight and penetration experiment of prototype at range showed that the design requirement for dispersion and penetration of EFP were met fully.This study also showed that, combined-case is a good solution to the special requirement of the prototype, the numerical simulation method which was revised by experiment data could be used to instruct the engineering warhead structure design.
