Research On The Symbolic Culture In The Chinese Buddhist Architecture

The Buddhist architecture, Originated in the Indian, was brought by Buddhism into China.In China traditional culture,it had been greatly developed and evolved,finally become a unique and independent system of Chinese Buddhist architectural culture. Containing in the Chinese Buddhist architecture,there are the numerous phenomena and cultural characteristics, which also in a vast and difficult area to research.Symbolic cultural phenomenon, appears in the entire human civilization. It has the special status and significance which can’t be negative and ignore. And because of the particularity of the symbolic culture, to understand and interpretate of it should be one of our important works for inheriting the traditional culture in essence. So do in the field of architecture.So, the author try to discuss, investigate, and research the Chinese Buddhist architecture, from the perspective of the symbolic culture, and also try to make new and useful exploration at the architectural culture area. On the basis of the mass of data and material, the author try to analyse the symbolic culture in the Chinese Buddhist architecture, and put forward some new ideas.In introducing the concept:the concept and perspective of the symbolic culture is introduced into the field of architectural culture, to produce the research subject. And the close relationship between the symbolic culture and architecture itself, especially the religious architecture is discussed.In the architecture style:representations of the symbolic culture in the Chinese Buddhist architecture, are enumerated and described, from many respects as layout, single architecture, space, material, colour, pattern, sculpture.In anlysing modes of the architectural culture:on that basis of representations, symbolic modes and forms in the Chinese Buddhist architecture are summarized and concluded.In the comparison between architectural cultures:by the comparative study between the Chinese and foreign Buddhist architecture, also between the Buddhist architecture and the Taoist architecture in China, the similarities and differences between different religious architecture styles is discussed, under the perspective of the symbolic culture. In the origin of architectural culture:based on the analysis and comparison, the causes of the symbolic culture in the Chinese Buddhist architecture is investigated and explored.The theoretical significance of the paper:to popularize the concept of "the symbolic culture", and promote the rethink and survey of the symbolic culture in the research of architecture. The practical significance of the paper:analysing the symbolic culture in the Chinese Buddhist architecture, is in favour of promoting the practical architectural work. To understand, master and inherit the traditional culture elements, also can inspire the new high-quality design of architectural culture.
