Region always plays an important role in both human's cultural and areas. Religious buildings, especially monastic architectures, are likewise one of most important parts of architectural history. Combining Buddhist teachings with Confucianism, Chinese Buddhist architectures have presented some unique characters after a series of long period and large-scale Buddhist construction activities. Based on local customs, geographical characteristics and economic development level, Chinese Buddhism adjusted the appearances of Buddhist temples, pagodas and landscapes. Thus, these architectures have been widely different from primitive Indian Buddhism ones. After 2000 years of development, there are three main kinds of Chinese Buddhist architectures: Han Buddhist architectures, Tibetan Buddhist architectures and Southern Buddhist architectures. Each of the three types fuses the local ethnic architectural cultures and shows their own characters. This paper expounds the definition of landscape, the development from Han to Qing dynasty and landscape analysis of Chinese Buddhist architectures, and also the landscape designs. This paper also illustrates the theories of architectonic, design philosophy and the Buddhism. In addition, by studying the three types of Buddhism and analyzing factors like geography, roads, buildings, waterscapes and native plants, the differences of Han Buddhist architectures, Tibetan Buddhist architectures and Southern Buddhist architectures and the connections between Chinese Buddhist architectures and landscape design are summarized. With times past and the increasing cultural communication with the west, Chinese traditional landscape design has been constantly impacted by advanced design philosophy, that is, imitating the west and ignoring traditional Chinese culture. China is a great civilized country with abundant architectural heritages. Historic buildings, including Buddhist architectures, are one vital source to inherit and develop the Chinese culture. We must pay more attention to the Buddhist architectures and make more studies and protections of Historic buildings, and make new development and application of them.
