Reactive power compensation of power system is a very important and meaningful work. In the power system, reactive power is an important factor of voltage stability and it is related to the security and stability of the entire power system running. Therefore, the reactive power compensation is one of the effective measures to ensure power system run high efficiently and reliably. With the deepening development of China’s power industry and increasing modernization of grid management, reactive power compensation issues has drawn increasingly attention and becomes an important area in modern electricity science. However, there are several problems existing, such as the master terminal is far from the power scene and more dangerous, compensation points are very scattered and so on. Therefore reactive power compensation control system based on remote wireless communication technology is very worthy of study.Firstly, the background and the significance of reactive power compensation are explained, its development and status is also described. And then the development and current status of remote wireless transmission technology are introduced. Reactive power compensation control system based on GPRS network and telecommunications technology was proposed and its overview is briefly described. Secondly, the paper introduces the basic principle of reactive power compensation, including its physical theories and principles and several ways of the reactive power compensation to line; it also introduces the basic principles of GPRS, including the connection of GPRS and Internet, and describes its advantages of applying to the control system. The basic principles and functions of the system is presented in this paper. Again, the paper introduces the calculation of network parameters and fuzzy control theory. On this basis, switching capacitor control strategy based on fuzzy control theory and optimal thinking was proposed and described in detail. Finally, the hardware of the system was designed, including sampling circuit, the main control circuit and communication circuit; the software flow chart of the whole system and the task of capacitor switching are corresponding described.
