Ultrahigh voltage large capacity power transformer plays a significant rolein the process, which transfers the electrical energy in the modern world. Withthe continuous development of the modern industry, the requirement of the powertransformer performance is more rigorous. The more the capacity of the powertransformer increases, the greater leakage magnetic field in the tank is, and thelarger eddy current loss caused by leakage magnetic field is, so the more seriousthe local overheating caused by the eddy current loss is. For this reason, theresearch of the leakage magnetic field and eddy current loss in the powertransformer tank further and accurately to improve the efficiency possessengineering significance. The leakage magnetic field2D model of a power transformer is establishedin this paper, the specific distribution of the leakage magnetic field in the tank isanalysed with the electromagnetic field theory. Then the whole3D finite elementmodel of the power transformer tank is established, the eddy current loss of thetank is calculated. The calculated distribution of the eddy current loss iscoincided with the density distribution of the2D leakage magnetic field, they areall consistent with the distribution of the actual leakage magnetic field and eddycurrent loss, and the calculating methods have been proved to be accurate afterexperiment. On account of the electrical shielding and magnetic shielding toreduce the eddy current loss, the calculating shielding models with differentheight and different location are established respectively, the eddy current loss ofthe tank with shielding are calculated, then the best size and location of theshielding with different shielding material are analysed. It provides an importantbasis to reduce the eddy current loss of the tank and control the local overheating of the tank wall effectively.
