Pumping stations have been playing a huge role in irrigating, drainaging and providing water for urban and rural industry. It makes a great contribution to the modernization construction. Inlet passage is an important part of the large and medium-sized pumping stations. The export of inlet passage is impellers import, so the flowing pattern of the inlet passage will directly affect the performing quality of the pump. Culvert inlet passage has the characteristics of low channel height, small foundation excavation depth, simple structure, a single cross sectional shape changes, ease of construction and other features, so more and more attention has been paying on this pumping station project. But the flowing pattern within the inlet passage is complex, the design is not perfect in some respects, the structure size does not get better optimizing. The vacant high of oviduct and the height of the passage are relatively fewly studied, these two parameters have a great impact on the performance of the pumping stations and the investment of project, therefore, carrying out the study of the flowing pattern optimization of the one-way pressure culvert inlet passage and providing appropriate parameters for the channel design to meet the practical needs will have an important reference value to reduce the hydraulic losses in the inlet passage, and to improve the efficiency of pumping stations.At present, the CFD theory is increasingly more and more perfect, the computer technology has been rapidly developed, thanks to this, the method of numerical simulation of fluid mechanical study are getting more and more attention. FLUENT is one of the widely used CFD softwares, it can solve complex flowing problems stably and efficiently. Not only that, the calculated results can be displayed visually.This article using the GAMBIT software set the three-dimensional geometric solid model of the culvert inlet passage pump device, and use the sub-blocks of unstructured grid mesh on the model, according to the requirements of numerical calculation,we gives the calculated parameters and set the boundary conditions. Based on the three-dimensional incompressible fluid reynolds-averaged N-S equation and the standard k-ε turbulence model, we use the FLUENT software on the model. The results revealing the pattern of the flowing in the passage, and predict the hydraulic losses of the runner in different conditions. Based on it, we select he vacant high of oviduct and the height of the passage to study. Firstly, designed five different height of the inlet passage, through the calculation results to compare the change of the flowing pattern in different channel and calculate the passages hydraulic loss, through this way, we explore the impact of vacant high of oviduct on the flowing pattern in the passage.With simulating four different height of culvert inlet passage pump device, to explore the impact on the flowing in the inlet passage with the height changes of the passage.Through the above research, to obtain the internal flowing pattern of the culvert inlet passage, and provide the basis for the optimizing of the inlet passage designs.
