Over the past few years, with the rapid development of wireless communication network technology, as well as the urgent demands of transportation field informatization, it has been increasingly attracting attentions for industry and academia to apply the wireless communication network to the f transportation field, for which an interdisciplinary study subject has been emerged, that is the Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET). As a fundamental component of the future intelligent transportation system, VANET constitutes an unified wireless communication network through the mutual communication of the inter-vehicles communication and the vehicles-roadside units communication, with which the car nodes in the net could transfer the routine messages related on the assistant driving and the accident avoiding, or provide drivers with some value added services including entertainment messages and Internet access etc. So, multiple pretty promising applications (such as driving experience improving, driving safety enhancement and so on) could be expected to VANET. However, VANET is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, we could enjoy the safety and convenience VANET bring to us; on the other hand, we can never underestimate a series of troubles and challenges which are raised by VANET, especially the security and personal privacy-preserving concerns during the communication process. We can imagine that malicious cars can take advantage of VANET and disturb the whole system so as to some ulterior motives could be achieved. For instance, a compromised vehicle constantly jamming a significant amount of bogus messages into a VANET, and then normal messages’, especially the emergency messages related on safety, reception and verification will be delayed, which possibly raises a real accident; In addition, private information such as driver name、license plate、speed、position and travelling routes etc could be leaked along with the broadcasting of routine messages. So security and privacy-preserving concerns have been the heaviest barriers that prevent the massively practical application of VANET, only the two fatal issues mentioned above are settled can the public really benefit from VANET.
