Nowadays, the frequent road accident has become a serious problem of the whole society. Vehicular ad-hoc network is a vehicle communication network which can reduce traffic accidents and increase road safety. But traditional security and privacy protocol would not fully apply to vehicular ad-hoc network. We need to design new security authentication and privacy protection protocols that apply to VANET. In the field of digital signature, proxy re-signature technology is an attractive research issue. Proxy re-signature not only achieves the anonymity of identity, but also provides a new approach for the security authentication and privacy protection in the VANET.To resolve privacy-preserve problem in vehicular ad-hoc networks, a message authentication scheme is presented by using secret sharing technology. This scheme can protect the privacy information of vehicle by the threshold proxy re-signature algorithm. It allows road-side unit to turn a signature generated by on-board unit into one from trusted authority on the same message, so it can effectively eliminate the risk of tracking vehicle according to signature. The new scheme distributes the re-signature key into roadside units. Therefore it can effectively protect the re-signature key. Trusted authority can trace back to the message of the real vehicle released, and solve the problem of illegal vehicle recall.A message authentication scheme for vehicular ad-hoc network(VANET) is presented by using certificateless public key cryptography and proxy re-signature cryptography. This scheme introduces proxy re-signature technology, and allows trusted authority to turn a signature generated by on-board unit into one from road-side unit on the same message. So it not only effectively eliminates the risk of tracking vehicle according to signature, but also ensures VANET communication safety. Certificateless public key cryptography effectively solves certificate management and key escrow problem in the VANET. If the vehicle releases false news, trusted authority can trace back to the message of the real vehicle released and recall illegal vehicle. Moreover, the new scheme has some advantages over the available schemes, such as high security, low storage overhead and low communication overhead.
