"Light-frame wood structures" is mainly used in the North America, which is one of the major structural forms applied to the villas and the lower residences of that area. There are many advantages with it, such as fast and efficient, simple in structure, and standardized components, etc. So it is wildly used in the North America and other seismic regions. In the light wood frame construction, it subjects to lateral load through the wood-frame shear wall. The lateral performance relates to many factors, such as lateral support, sheet plate arrangement and thickness, nail diameter, nail spacing, stud spacing and wall dimensions, etc.In China,"light wood frame construction" has been added in code for design of timber Structures (GB50005-2003), which provide essential and favorable support for the popularity of light wood frame construction in China. However, the major contents were obtained from the test results and the codes of the North America. So strengthen relevant study of light wood frame construction is necessary.According to the development and requirements of wood frame construction, this paper bases on experiments,12different shear walls are made static load tests to simulate the lateral performance of light wood frame construction through out-of-plane of the loading beam without vertical load. Based on experimental data and observation records, through the analysis, get the results of different tectonic wood shear wall in the monotonous loading and repeated loading test.The results include load-displacement curve, hysteretic property, lateral displacement stiffness, shear strength, ultimate displacement, ductility, energy dissipation and failure mode and so on. And then analysis of the three different kinds of studs spacing, the two kinds of nail distance and a height to width aspect ratio impact on the lateral performance of wood shear wall.Finally, ANASYS software is used in the shear walls modeling to verify that the behavior of wood shear walls used a new setup recommend is more reliable.The results show that, ANSYS calculated results agree well with the experimental results.
