With the development of bridge construction technology and to meet therequirements of navigation capacity and bridge aesthetics, large span bridges becomethe first choice of most cross-river and cross-sea bridges. Most large span bridges aresteel bridge. However, steel bridge deck’s using condition and requirements are muchhigher than ordinary road pavement’s, bridge deck pavement becomes a technicaldifficulty for large span steel bridge construction. Moreover, problems due to steelbridge become the difficulties of normal operation of bridges. At present, most of thelarge span bridges being used have appeared different degrees of disease. Hence,comprehensive investigation of diseases and their corresponding reasons is of greatsignificance for steel bridge’s normal operation and repair, and also can give advancesto steel bridges that will be built.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. By collecting, analyzing, comparing and summarizing the research data aboutsteel bridge deck, investigate the using condition of the highways and bridges in ourcounty in resent years, especially for their damage and destruction form. Discuss theadvantages and disadvantages of all kinds of deck materials and understand thepavement materials’ technical requirement and applicable condition.2. Classify the typical diseases of steel deck pavements and analyze their reasons.Simulate the bridge deck stress condition by the ANSYS software and analyze the stressstrain effects of different orthotropic plate on deck pavement.3. Elaborate all sorts of reasons for the typical diseases, summarize the variousdiseases’ repairing method from the respects of using conditions and loading level.Finally, put forward some suggestions on bridge maintenance.The main research results of this paper are as follows:1. Under the vehicle loadings, the stiffness of the steel bridge deck pavement layerhas great effect on the strain of bridge deck pavement: Bigger stiffness pavement caneffectively resist the deformation under vehicle load. However, when the deck pavementstiffness increases to a certain extent, the ability of resistance to deformation does notgrow obviously.2. By changing the lateral stiffness of the structure of the orthotropic plate (bychanging the transverse baffle spaces) and longitudinal stiffness (by changing the aperture size and thickness of the orthotropic plate) and the overall stiffness oforthotropic plate (by changing the thickness of orthotropic plate steel plate) to verify theimpact of the stress and strain of the bridge deck pavement.3. By comprehensively comparing the pavement layer stiffness, deck platethickness and U rib structure, put forward to optimize structure of orthotropic deck.
