At present, China is undergoing rapid economic development period, the power system into a large grid, high pressure, large units, distant era. The quality of voltage and reactive power is directly related to security and stability of the grid, the grid normal voltage level, to a large extent dependent on the reactive power and voltage regulation and reactive power substation and voltage equipment, reasonable control. To ensure the safety of the grid voltage, high-quality, economy, now began to build the whole network in many parts of the automatic voltage control system. Thermal power plants as an important power in a reactive power source, power bus voltage regulator for power system stability plays an important role. This paper proposes a new thermal power plant automatic voltage control system design. Adjust the bus voltage level of the existing plant expansion on the automatic generation control system implemented, constitute a kind of information, control integration platform, improve equipment utilization. Through dynamic identification of system impedance, the online conversion between voltage and reactive can be accomplished and the adaptive regulator parameters can also be modified, in order to achieve fast and zero error output adjustment. For the purpose of automatic bus bar voltage regulation, the coordination between the control unit can be realized based on the bias adjustment algorithms of the distribution strategy of whole plant reactive power. For the actual circumstance, the hardware and software of the system are designed, the technical problems of data acquisition, excitation modification, running mode, locking protection are elaborated too. This AVC system has a good reference and popularize value, with the features of novel design, construction-save, powerful function, stable and reliable.
