In our existing hydropower engineering, earth rock-fill dam has been widely used because it has many advantages, such as low cost、simple structure、good adaptability and so on. As time goes on, more earth rock-fill dams built, so there were more and more people engaged in the research work of earth rock-fill dam. In the research work, the earth rock-fill dam safety problem has been one of the most important, and the main factors that influence the earth rock-fill dam safety are seepage and slope stability, so reasonable and proper analysis them is the key of the dam safe operation. This paper makes a preliminary to this problem. This paper, from the basic theory of seepage, introduces the basic principle of seepage finite element analysis in detail, At the same time through the percolation equation and the heat equation of comparative analysis found that both of them have similar theory foundation similar differential equation and similar definite solution condition, so we can use ANSYS’thermal analysis module to solve the dam seepage analysis problems. So this paper writes calculate procedure uses ANSYS software provides APDL language program. And according to a concrete example proceed seepage analysis, determine the position of saturation line, and section water method compared the results proved that the conclusion is correct. Then this paper with ANSYS software for the platform, uses the numerical analysis of finite element strength reduction to calculate slope stability.Bases on ANSYS software of seepage and slope stability analysis method of accuracy, application of uses calculate procedure to calculate seepage and stability analysis of the Dashimen hydropower station retaining water engineering, simulation its saturation line, plastic zone, the safety coefficient of the dam, provide a new calculate method and thinking.
