In the production and supply of electric power, it is better to keep the power sustained all the time to raise the reliability. Usually, the substations and important users take the manner that two or more sources supply the power and the sources back up for one another. Reserve power source automatic connection device(AAT) is the intelligent control device to realize the backup function. And the reliable run of AAT plays a key role in the process of backup power supply. And the AAT requires effective calibration method to assure the normal operation of itself. The calibration equipment should verify the function of AAT under various main electrical connections.In this paper, the research status of AAT tester at home and abroad is analyzed. Starting modes of AAT is introduced. Also the connection mode of AAT, such as bus connection breaker or bridge breaker reserve power source automatic connection, line breaker reserve power source automatic connection, standby transformer automatic connection, are researched.At present, domestic traditional AAT calibration methods have the shortcomings of comparatively complex and unsatisfied calibration effect. In this paper, using the property that the relay has more contact points, general design scheme of AAT tester is proposed. And hardware and software of AAT tester are designed in detail to improve the calibration efficiency. The hardware design mainly includes main controller, simulated breaker, power rectifier module, inverse module, internal current module and LCD display module. The software design mainly includes test item and its operation logic, main program flowchat of system, man-machine interface and input-output module. According to field test result analysis, the tester can simulate the various standby power connection style, thus the operation correctness of the AAT is verified. With this AAT tester, the shortcomings that the complexity of the wiring lines, the less flexibility of the calibration, the unsatisfied effect are overcame. And it provides a new calibration method for the AAT.
