Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the future direction of development ofthe transportation system, it is the effective integration of advanced informationtechnology, data communications transmission technology, electronic sensor technology,control technology and computer technology, applied to the entire ground trafficmanagementsystem and establish a wide range, all-round role, real-time, accurate,efficient and integrated transport management system. ITS can effectively make use ofexisting transportation facilities, to reduce the traffic load and environmental pollution,to ensure traffic safety, improve transport efficiency, therefore, increasingly hampered bythe attention.ITS needs to meet the needs of all parties, industry-oriented managementdepartment, to strengthen business collaboration to enhance the industry regulatory andemergency response capabilities; industry-oriented decision-making departments, toenhance the scientific decision-making capacity; to enhance public service capacity forthe public.According to Shantou overall deployment plan for intelligent transportation, the author propose the construction requirement of Shantou subsystem of the intelligent transportation system, and formulate the short-term and the long-term construction plan.The paper first introduces the intelligent traffic situation at home and abroad, aswell as the city of Shantou intelligent transportation construction situation, the nextcombined Shantou road traffic characteristics and intelligent traffic overall developmentplan and the recent long-term function of the system to achieve the proposedconstruction requirements. Focus discusses recent building subsystem functionalrequirements and implementation, including intelligent traffic management, off-site lawenforcement function, the city assisted bayonet, intelligent platform systemsmanagement, GIS map, platform operation and maintenance management, traffic lightscontrol system and traffic guidance system.
