Pursue Happiness City Waterfront District Design Research

The planning and designing of the cities’ waterfront area is one of the importantproblems in high-speed developing cites of china. Many scholars in Sociology,economics, ethics, landscape science, architecture and other areas have unscrambledand expounded it. However, there are still confused things: What feelings canwater-front landscape bring to resident? What way should be followed to figure apersonality and energetic cities’ waterfront landscape that filled with happiness?When reading these books on psychology the author aware of that citizens is thesoul of a city. Starting from the angle of public demand,wherther it be moreconvenient to find the way of planning and designing of the cities’ waterfront area.I think introducing the concept of “happiness”to the planning and designing ofthe cities’waterfront landscape may find the answer of these questions:What’s the value of introducing the concept of “happiness”to the planning anddesigning of the cities’waterfront landscape?How to define “happiness”?What’s thefeature of those native famouse cities’ waterfront landscape?What’s the relationshipbetween cities’waterfront landscape and happiness?What’s the design method oncities’waterfront landscape that produces happy? This paper presents five parts basedon these.ChapterⅠintroduces the origin, research objects, approach and framework in theproblem. This chapter states the four basic questions in the paper.Chapter Ⅱ points out the defintion of cities’ waterfront landscape and itsdevelopment trend. Including the defintion and classification of cities’ waterfront area,the theory development course and trend of the planning and designing of waterfrontarea.Chapter Ⅱ points out the defintion of cities’ waterfront landscape and itsdevelopment trend. Including the defintion and classification of cities’ waterfront area,the theory development course and trend of the planning and designing of waterfrontarea.Chapter Ⅲ points out the defintion of happiness. Firstly, stating the questionthat why I use “happiness” as a standard to study cities’waterfront landscape.Secondly, expounding the brief history of generalized “happiness”. Finally，includingthe influence factor of happiness. Chapter Ⅳ analyzed and appraised three cases including the West Lake,Qinghuaihe River and Xiang River, concludes the advantages and disadvantagesamong them.Chapter Ⅴ bases on preamble, analyze the relationship between cities’waterfront landscape and happiness, then conclude some keys what should be noticedin the design.The author looks forward to provide academic opinions to landscape architects,planners and city managers, which may give them a chance to start having a"happiness" perspective on planning and designing of the cities’ waterfront.
