The past decades have witnessed an increasing number of restrictions imposed on the power plants’wastes nationwide, raising a heated discussion on the technique of how to decrease the discharged wastes accordingly. With a rising price of coal and more rigid limitations on discharges, all of the current coal-fired power plants are confronted with the double requests to enhance the boiler’s rate and to control the amount of discharged wastes. Thus, a more proper and functional controlling and scheduling method is cried out for in the integrated process so as to save the energy, to lower the expenses and to decrease the polluted wastes. The Technique of Combustion Optimization (COT) is an optimizing problem of multiple objects in itself. By measuring and testing major parameters in a combusting boiler in an on-line way, it optimizes the wind amount and coal amount according to the loads as well as the type of coal. And this is how the COT works as a reference for thermal operators to adjust the boiler’s combustion. At the same time, the COT serves as the supervising and controlling system for the boiler on the DCS platform. By adopting advanced controlling methods and artificial intelligence techniques, it helps achieve the boiler’s combustion optimization to a great extent. And on the premise of guaranteeing a legally limited waste amount, it aims to increase the boiler’s rate as much as possible. At present, most of the Chinese thermal plants have been equipped with a DCS, so the unit’s controllability is of high level. And the uses of a variety of advanced instruments have really come in handy in testing a number of paramount data on line, such as the temperature, the oxygen amount, the NOx amount and the unburned carbon amount in flue dust. Theoretically, the automation field has seen the development and applications of the Neural Network theory, the Heritance algorithm and so on, which has laid a sound foundation for the Combustion Optimization SystemIn this paper, a temperature-field-measurement-cored COS is designed based on the combustion experiments. It can lower the possibility of cocking in the furnace, increase the combustion rate of a boiler, decrease the NOx discharges, and therefore bring about a profound influence on the thermal operators’control of furnace’s combustion.
