The Study On Luban Chi Application And The Traditional Thought Of Creation

Chinese traditional culture is broad and profound, it has provided fertile soil and cultural matrix. For several thousand years of history inheritance and accumulation, it has given birth to innumerable material wealth and cultural heritages which are carried Chinese ancestors’wisdom and labor sweat. And the production and use of Chinese traditional tools, has played an irreplaceable role in the history of Chinese traditional creation, with its unique and complete design idea and design system.Luban Chi, as a special case in Chinese traditional tools, contains two system which is measurement system and divination system. So it not only is the measuring tool in traditional wood industry, but also contains abundant ancient Chinese traditional thoughts and cultural contents. This paper takes Luban Chi as research subject, is hoping to take it as the representation and breakthrough point of the Chinese traditional tools, and try to arranges and summaries the concept, application and divination method of Luban Chi by using the literature study, material collecting and the field work methods. Then I try to inquire into the relationship among Luban Chi and the folk belief, folk ritual and the craftsmen which are formed in the use process. And on that basis I try to dig and summarize Chinese traditional philosophy, traditional beliefs and values, and Chinese traditional design thought.The study and research for Chinese traditional tools, is also a kind of way to interpret Chinese traditional design and creation. The author expects to take this thesis as a new study point and a key to the research of Chinese traditional creation history.
