This paper mainly studied the problem of overweight which used the method of wall reinforcement. We proposed a reinforced method posting steel plate outside, and we made theoretical analysis from the form of affording load, calculation of axial capacity and calculation of shear capacity. We studied the overall seismic performance of reinforced structure through actual engineering and compared with the method of wall reinforcement. At the same time, we used finite element software to establish three models to analyze each other in order to research the shear capacity. Finally, it compared with each other from economic performance.According to this paper, we get the following conclusions:(1)With the method of posting steel plate outside to reinforce the masonry structures, the resistance and effect and comprehensive seismic capacity index of the floors will increase moderately compared with wall reinforcement. The improved coefficients are four times and seismic capacity can meet requirements of the code.(2) With the method of posting steel plate outside to reinforce the masonry structures, the ultimate shear capacity is improved significantly and seismic capacity of the structure has been greatly improved. The thickness of steel plate in reinforced structures has greater impact on the rigidity of structure in elastic stage, ultimate bearing capacity and descending stiffness. The increasing thickness can enhance the overall ductility of the masonry structures. The yield strength of the steel plate of the reinforced structure has little impact on the rigidity of structure in elastic stage, ultimate bearing capacity and descending stiffness. So high yield strength steel should not be used in reinforcement.(3)Masonry structure using the method of wall reinforcement will have greater stiffness, more strength, good deformation and good ductility. It can withstand the earthquake effect by its plastic deformation in earthquake in order to improve the seismic performance masonry structures. But using this method will increase the weight of the structure which is bad for the building foundation. Even we must take measures to reinforce the building basis which will increase the difficulty of the construction.(4) With the method of posting steel plate outside to reinforce the masonry structures, it can increase less weight of the original structure, but it can reduce the costs of building basis. Meanwhile, this method has short construction period and little difficulty and it is suitable for the reinforcement structure which the basic capacity can not be improved.
