"Urban Park":a New Construction Of Public Space And Its Significance

Public space is an important issue that the academic community pay attation to in recent years, and it is an important perspective for understanding social change. Urban public space is a forum for public engagement activities of urban residents. It is the public important venue for all kinds of material and information exchange. It is not just urban public piece in the public geospatial, but a host city of the political, economic, cultural, socio-spatial development and the construction. The value of the public space lies on improving internal social function. To the public, there is no any attraction if the space have no perfect social function. A Park in one city is an important public space, which is the new product with the development of city in modern times.This new public space spreads by the Western country to China, It also took root in cities in China and became an important part of modern urban structures. Hangzhou also closely followed the pace with the times, there had been some modern parks. This new public space is the inevitable result of social development and progress of Hangzhou city during the period of the Republic of appearance. Hubin Park is one of the models which take as the flags of Hangzhou to urban public space. The appearance of city park in China including the development of the park in Hangzhou is related to the concept of city culture in the western countries. With the continuous construction and renovation, Hubin park has become a place where exist advanced facilities and powerful management. It affected various aspects of Hangzhou, such as the politics, economy, culture, social life of citizens and so on. It is no longer the private space to the social privilege class but a new public space in a city, which has an important effect on the politic, economics and culture in a city. After bringing the entertainment and fresh message to people and society, the park has becoming the society indispensable for a city. For another, the park also plays a role as the table of city economic, cultural development.Taking the city public space as the research object,1select the development history of Hubin park of Hangzhou during the period of the Republic of China as a case and make analysis on city park from the perspective of history and city. Public space is a macro concept with distinctive range and characteristics. After taking Hangzhou Hubin Park as a case, the article analyses the background, the development process, and the information and social significance behind Hubin Park. The article is divided into four parts, the first chapter introduces the concept of city park and analyzes the historical background of the Hangzhou Hubin Park; the second chapter discusses the process of the construction of Hubin Park. The park became the core of Hangzhou through the planning and construction of municipal authorities, its internal facilities became more and more perfective after the Revolution of1911; the third chapter summarizes the characteristics of Hangzhou Hubin Park from its geographical location, its naturality, its modernity and its cultural diversity; the fourth chapter explores the relationship between city park and city politics, city commercial and city culture though the historical change. Hubin Park is the window of city image and has significance to the rise and the prosperity of the market. At the same time, the park is important to the city development, emboding the city culture and conveying rich social informations.In recent years, city park is full of changes with various types. The personality and the characteristics of Hubin Park show the kind of public space of city park from one side. City Park is a new type of public space in the early time of China and it is different from the old public space such as the teahouse, pub, temple fairs in Chinese society and so on, taking as a representative of city space in the city. In a sense, we can say that the park has become on behalf of city public space. I hope to interpret the influence on the development, the public social life and the city politics.economy and culture after the emerging of Hubin Park during the period of the Republic of China.
