Study On Architecture Cluster Morphology

In modern architecture field, new ideas of different kinds emerge in an endless stream. The expression mode of architecture is becoming more complex than ever before. Among them, a number of works share some common feathers in architectural morphology. That is, each project is a monomer, but exhibits the status of cluster, thus leads to the common features on its spatial composition. In the article, this type of work is summarized as architecture cluster morphology. And researches have been carried out concerning the spatial morphology feathers of these works, so as to explore the influencing factors behind them.This paper firstly introduces the conception of architecture cluster morphology, thus confines the scope of the discussed topics. Then it describes how architecture field has laid a foundation for the development of architecture cluster morphology since post-modern time. This description is unfolded in two aspects:thinking modes of design and specific design methods. After that, it also analyzes the social basis for the development and promotion of cluster morphology in modern architecture field, which is spread out under all the features of the internet age.Architectural works with cluster morphology exhibit new feathers which are different from former ones on their spatial composition, including dispersed state, spatial composition without center and axis, spatial ambiguity, spatial openness and multi-level spatial depth. These feathers bring about a breakthrough in traditional recognition of space since post-modern time, which caters to people’s expectations for architectural space in modern age.The design process of architecture cluster morphology is not always completely objective derived:uncertainties in this process make it hard for us to define a standard design method for architecture cluster morphology. However, based on both the main spatial feathers of architecture cluster morphology and the analysis of completed cases, this paper classifies architectural works with cluster morphology into four fundamental space prototypes, and discusses their specific manifestation with practical cases.
