The Study On The Construction System Of"Infill Building" In History Quarters

During the recently years, the massive constructions in the cities of China have done great damages to the historical districts. In terms of the renewing historical urban fabric, the way of construction is still open to the question. The author is trying to discuss various ways of potential construction methods; and take steel structure as example.Firstly, taking example of Nanjing and Cicheng in Jiangnan area, which are typical traditional cities in the southeast part of China, the author analysis how the one building is developing into courtyard building type and then into a city block and how it is influenced by the different construction methods. The following study is based on the courtyard building type. Secondly, taking one courtyard building unit as example, the author studies the traditional and potential building materials and methods by dividing into structure, roof, load-bearing wall, unload-bearing wall and foundation.Last, the author tries to infill the building with new materials and structure into the traditional district; and analysis the effects and contrast of the building, the courtyard building and the block. With that result, it could verify the possibilities in method of construction.
