Marine simulator plays an important role in modern maritime education and training, project demonstration and navigational safety assessment. It will be more useful to the trainees to have better depth perception effect and improve the realism and immersion in the visual system of marine simulator by using the stereoscopic display technology. The thesis researched how to apply head-mounted device (HMD) device and virtual binocular in marine simulator and integrate with it.The following main works were finished in the thesis:(1) After analyzing the principles advantages and disadvantages of various stereoscopic display technologies, the thesis proposed that Off-Axis model could be used to produce the pair of stereo image. The influence of eye-distance on stereoscopic displaying result was also analyzed by various tests.(2) The structure of3D-model database, transformation matrix of the node for interacting and the method of collision detection were studied. Human-computer interaction and virtual roaming of the virtual bridge of "Yu Kun" Vessel were implemented.(3) The principle of implementing virtual binocular using OpenGL graphical pipeline was analyzed. Based on the technology mentioned above, a mimic binocular and head-mounted device (HMD) were integrated with our simulator and could be run in real-time.The thesis implemented the application and integration of HMD and virtual binocular with marine simulator. The visual system of simulator using the devices could provide better stereo effect, so enhanced the realism and immersion effect of visual system.
