In recent years, the accident of ship-bridge collision occurs frequently and causes serious harm. How to determine the collision force of bridge pier has an important guiding significance to bridge pier impact-proof design. Based on the model test and finite element technology, the dynamic response characteristics of bridge pier under horizontal impact loads are analyzed. And simplified calculation formula of the collision force of bridge pier is put forward with the help of the numerical simulation calculation. The major contents and achievements of this paper are as follows:(1) Summarizing the theory of ship-bridge collision. Sums up the current overseas and domestic the general calculation method and its experimental study. Some problems that would be studied in the future are pointed out.(2) According to the test objective, the test model of bridge pier is designed and made by using the similarity theory. And the experimental research on horizontal collision of bridge pier is finished under two different load cases(different impact speed), including the selection of test instrument, the test of material properties and the design of test method. The time history curves of the response of collision force, acceleration, velocity, displacement and strain are obtained by the experiment. Some regularities of the bridge pier collision are concluded. And they will provide some reference for subsequent research on collision force.(3) The finite element model of pier collision is built and the theoretical research on bridge pier collision is carried out under two different load cases. By comparing the model test and numerical calculation, the results are in good agreement. It is proved that the model parameters adopted in this paper can simulate the response of bridge pier under impact loads accurately. So is the correctness and reliability of the finite element numerical simulation calculation.(4) Series of the numerical simulation calculations of bridge pier collision are carried out. The influence of concrete axial compressive strength, longitudinal reinforcement ratio and impact height on the deformation response of bridge pier under horizontal impact loads is studied by using the method of the parametric analysis. Some problems about bridge pier impact-proof design that should be paid attention are put forward. At the same time, several factors that influence collision force are studyed thoroughly, such as mass of ship, velocity, impact height. The simplified calculation formula of maximum collision force are put forward by nonlinear equation fitting with the help of MATLAB software. With the model test results and specifications at home and abroad are compared, some useful conclusions are obtained and have certain practical value.
