In recent years, along with explosion of automobile quantity, the intelligent traffic hasbecome the hot spot of domestic and foreign research. At same time, as one of its mainparts of intelligent traffic, vehicle monitoring system has been widely used, and providesscientific methods for vehicle supervision of enterprises and institutions, reduces costs,improves effectiveness, has obtained the good social efficiency.Combining GIS and GPS technology, integrating the GSM/GPRS wirelesscommunication technology, the vehicle real-time monitoring system based on GIS andGPS is a set of integrated system of hardware and software with vehicle monitoring,vehicle scheduling, and vehicle alarm etc. It is really used in many fields, such as logistics,enterprises and institutions, taxis and private cars, and so on. It provides a solution forstrengthening the management of vehicles, anti-theft, anti-Rob, and so on.In this article, the background of the vehicle real-time monitoring system based onGIS and GPS, and the related knowledge of GIS, GPS and the others, first are studied. Andat the same time, the basic theories and the domestic and foreign application situation ofthis system are set out. Second, the technology associated with GSM/GPRS wirelesscommunication is presented. At the same time, the data transfer protocol used in thissystem also is studied and designed detailedly. Again, on the basic of detailedly analyzingthe basic functions of the system, the overall structure of the system is designed. At thesame time, the main function modules of vehicle terminal system, application server andbusiness application system are also designed. Finally, with the actual requirement, theenvironment, steps and methods for achiving of the various functional modules inapplication server and business application system, are detailedly described.
