Indoor environment is important location for human life and action, and thermal environment quality is closely linked to human health, so more scholars and researchers have paid more attention to thermal environment quality. Through thousands of years development, human architecture both embodies the thought of harmonious coexistence between architecture and nature and condenses skilled craftsman’s talent, and in the process of building thermal environment quality under different climate conditions people have accumulated plentiful methods and experiences. Traditional town in Chengdu area especially Chengdu traditional old towns is the most direct historical testimony, filled of cultural implication. Does Chengdu traditional towns have any special characteristics in responding to local climatic condition and building thermal environment? How can we get some reference from it? This is the objective of this thesis. The theme of this thesis based on indoor thermal environment, takes Chengdu area traditional towns as subject investigated and does some field research, spot test and computer simulation to Chengdu traditional towns’ architecture. After researching the current situation of building thermal environment of local comment people, this thesis summaries the methods of building indoor thermal environment adoption to local thermal and geographical characteristic conditions of local, combined indoor thermal environment design theory, put forward thermal environment building strategy suitable to Chengdu area.To sum up the current situation of thermal environment in Chengdu traditional town and people’s requirement to thermal environment,this thesis rises the following improved strategies:suggests improved methods of thermal property of exterior protected construction for its heat-insulating property; for temperature reduction in summer, proposes some planar design method, such as favor for natural ventilation plane figure design,building orientation and door and window locations and application of Suitability Technology, such as shading design, slope-roof ventilation and wall greening suitable to Chengdu area.
