For a long time, monitoring the level of municipal drainage pipe in our nation is a problem. And there is still no proper method of realizing this goal especially in a harsh environment. There are factors leading to this. The main factors are lack of water level sensors that can be used in sewage environment, hardness to ensure the stability of data transmission, difficulties to solve the energy supply problems, and lack of data managing and information sharing platform. All these problems become the main obstacle in monitoring the drainage level.This paper is mainly about the design of water level sensors, wireless water level detectors and data servers. Also it puts forward solutions to the problems that exist in water level detecting. It designs capacitance level sensors and overflowing sensors, which can all prevent sewage. In order to reduce the power dissipation, the embedded system runs in time-sharing power supply way. It puts forward the method of data transmission that TCP and short message are working at the same time. The data server is designed in structure of B/S, and establishes an efficient data-sharing and management mechanism to finish the design with high reliability.Firstly, this paper introduces the design process of the sensors:Capacitance level sensors and overflowing sensors. Capacitance level sensors detect level using capacitance theory. They can convert the change of capacitance to the change of electric level. Overflowing sensors detect level using the conductivity difference between the air and water. They convert the change of water level to change of electric level. Sensors are the base foundation of the whole system, and its rationality will affect the reliability of the whole system.Secondly, this paper introduces the hardware design of wireless water level detector. This part is designed for low power dissipation and high reliability of data transmission. So it chooses the power supply of high efficiency and powers the communication part and sensors only when it is necessary. The software is designed based on the modified embedded real-time operating system. In order to improve the reliability of data transmission, the system communicates mainly through TCP/IP.Lastly, this paper introduces the design of data server. It works in structure of B/S, consists of programming design of the server and function of webpage.The whole system tests data accuracy and transmission reliability on this platform. The data reflects the real-time conditions of drainage pipe and ensures the following research.This paper improves the existing system by decreasing the cost of detecting system, increasing the rate of data acquisition and installation flexibility. This design will have a wide market prospect.
