As one kind of economic crops, cotton is widely planted in our country. The straw-cotton stalk that is left in the field after the harvest of cotton is an important resource. However, the harvest of cotton stalks is very difficult, and the public’s understanding with the utilization value of cotton stalks is not enough, making cotton stalks mainly burned, buried for processing, resulting in the waste of resources. Therefore, it is urgent to research on the utilization value, mechanical properties, mechanical harvesting and subsequent processing of cotton stalks, so as to make full use of cotton stalks resources.This thesis considered the cotton stalks’row spacing and plant spacing, shape characteristic parameters such as plant height, bifurcation location, root length. The mechanical properties of cotton stalks in harvest time were studied, the tension, compression, bending and other mechanical properties of different periods and moisture content cotton stalks were tested and compared, the mechanical properties’difference between different moisture content cotton stalks were discovered.According to the cultivation and mechanical parameters of cotton stalks, the present situation of cotton stalks’mechanical harvesting techniques and principles was summarized and analyzed, and a kind of chain-slide rail type clamping-pulling mechanism of cotton stalks was designed. AUTO CAD and Pro/E software was used to complete the pulling mechanism’s two-dimensional and three-dimensional graph of parts and assembly. ADAMS/View module was used in the simulation and analysis of the lifting process of guiding device with the virtual design of modern design methods. The rationality and feasibility of the design of guiding device was verified.The pulling mechanism was produced on a trial basis, and the inverter was used to adjust the speed of motor as the driving force of the entire transmission system. The entire system has such advantages as low manufacturing cost, compact and simple structure, reliable operation and strong adaptability, it can be used to pull different diameter cotton stalks. Not only the clamping preload is adjustable, but also the clamping force can be automatically adjusted by compression spring according to the diameter of cotton stalks. The clamping device hinged steel bar is used in this mechanism, making the thin cotton stalks can be pulled out successfully when cotton stalks with different diameters enter the clamping track.When the pulling mechanism is working, the clamp-transport chain and the forward speed of the pulling mechanism can be adjusted so that the cotton stalks can enter the clamping track in proper state according to the growth and lodging condition of them. By verification tests, the lifting of the lodged cotton stalks can be realized, making them can enter the clamping track smoothly. The clamping force can be adjusted according to the diameters of different cotton stalks, making them can be pulled out from the soil successfully. When the cotton stalks reach the end of the track, the root of them has already been pulled out completely from the soil, then the poking wheel pokes down cotton stalks and they are laid flat on the ground.
