As one of the world's top three tuber crops, cassava is an important economic crop that is planted widely in the tropical and subtropical region. In the process of production, cassava's harvesting operation is short-timely and large labor intensity procedures, which needs a lot of labor to work under poor operating conditions. At present, our country's cassava harvest is artisanal or semi-mechanized operations generally. Because cassava harvester is still in the research and design stage, there is no mature cassava harvester to apply. Mechanization of cassava harvest can greatly improve harvest efficiency, reduce labor intensity and minimize losses, which lay a good foundation for the development of the cassava industry.By means of turning to the literature domestic and foreign, researching the cassava's plant characteristics in the field and its biological properties, and referencing other root crop's mechanical harvesting method, a kind of digging-pulling cassava harvester that supplied with medium-sized tractor was designed according to the actual demand. The content studied in this thesis is as follows:1. According to the operating performance indicators of the cassava harvester, the best harvest technology was determined. Then, the basic structure and performance parameters of the cassava harvester was analyzed and obtained, which can make the cassava harvester complete mining, separation, transportation and other work one time.2. The clamping-conveying mechanism of digging-pulling cassava harvester was designed systematically. Through comparing different types of agricultural holding method, the basic structure and working process of the clamping-conveying mechanism were determined, and the structural parameters of the clamping-conveying mechanism were analyzed and calculated. After establishing the force model of the gripping conveyor clamping, the clamping force was obtained.3. After conducting the detailed structural design for power transmission systems of cassava harvester's clamping-conveying mechanism, the transmission route, transmission ration and appropriate transmission form were determined. The structural parameters of main parts were designed in detail, and the strength checking of main transmission parts was conducted.4. The load analysis and static analysis of digging-pull cassava harvester's rack were conducted by using ANSYS finite element analysis software. Through analyzing the distribution diagrams of displacement and stress, it obtained that the strength of the rack meets the design requirements. 5. The3-D design of cassava harvester was conducted in Solidworks software, and the parts diagrams were design by using AutoCAD software. After manufacturing the prototype of cassava harvester, the field test had been carried out. The field test results show that digging-pull cassava harvester runs smoothly, and meets the harvest requirements.With the market demand and the development of the cassava harvester, the cassava combine harvester will be studied in the future, which can achieve those processes' integration of cutting stalk, incorporated, digging, separation, cutting, loading and so on. The research of this paper has reference value for the design of cassava combine harvester.
