The riparian buffer zone which is the crisscross area of land ecological system and aquatic ecological system is a complex ecological system and it plays an important role in adjusting material and energy balance between aquatic ecological system and other systems. The construction work of the riparian buffer zone is paid more attention to due to the serious water pollution problems in our country and the further deterioration of ecological environment. The paper referred to various management experience of riparian buffer zone from both the domestic and international and summarized embankment modes of the riparian buffer zone. Based on the specific conditions of Baihe and the guidance of natural design, the paper finally set the embankment modes of the riparian buffer zone aiming to improve drinking water quality and the ecological environment. Also the paper can provide technical references for managing other riparian buffer zone and has theoretical and practical significance in ecological restoration in Beijing. The results include:1Classified the modes of riparian buffer zone from the aspects of function and material.2Expounded the application scope and notes of various modes.Designed three types of band buffer zone according to section form, bank form, hydrological condition of the channel and the application scope of soil biological engineering.3Selected a typical bank in Baihe and designed landscape configuration of ecological embankment according to section form, vegetation condition, bank form, displayed landscape using CAD and SketchUp drawing software.
