Adzuki bean is one of the main food legumes and play an important role in regulating farmingsystem and peoples diets. In recent years, the demand of adzuki bean increase quickly, new varieies areneeded to meet this situation. However, the geneticstudies of adzukibean was much lagged, and only afew elite germplasm have been used for breeding. Therefore, in the present study, we analyzed theadapability of adzuki bean core collections in Tangshan city, to investigate elite germplasm that can beused for local production or breeding. The genetic diversity both based on phenotypes and genotypeswas also evaluated, to provide information for parental selection and pedigree analysis. The main resultsare as follows:1. Among the166accessions of a core collection of Chinese adzuki bean,25accessions can notmatrured finaly. The average growth periods of the141germplasm was101.3days, varied from83to116. The plant heights, branches on main stem and yield per plant varied more among accessions thanother traits. According to the agronomic traits,26accessions were selected to be suitable for planting inTangshan and its surrounding area, and also can be used in genetic improvement of local varieties.2. The evaluation based on agronomic traits of66landraces from Tangshan showed that: theseaccessions varied greatly on phenotypes, and can be divided into four groups based on penotypic data, however, the results showed no relationship with the geographic origin of accessions.3. The genetic diversity of96adzuki bean landraces in Tangshan and Tianjin based on SSRmarkers showed that the genetic diversity within accessions from different origins were unsimilar.among them, accessions from Zunhua was the highest on diversity than any other counties, whileaccession from Ninghe was the lowest. Finaly, the96accessions can be divided into3groups by usingcluster analysis, except for Jinghai, most of accessions from Tianjin were divided into a same group, while accessions from Tangshan also almost were divided into another groups, the third group includeaccesssions from Dagang.
