Fusarium wilt of cucumber is one of the main soil-borne diseases of cucumber, which is caused by Fusarium oxysporm f. sp. cucumerinum. Studies have shown that organic fertilizers containing variety of nutritionalelements and physiologicalactive substances which promote plant growth and improve the ecologicalenvironment and microorganism communities in the rhizosphere, and then improve the disease resistance of plants. There are stillmany uncertain factors in using compost to controlsoil-borne diseases because the different sources and composting process of organic fertilizer. The objective of this present study was to explore the potentialof compost of spent mushroom substrate in preventing Fusarium wilt of cucumber, the following results were obtained:1. The electricalconductivity and ultraviolet absorption content of F. oxysporm f. sp. cucumerinum were significantly increased when treated with concentration of400mg/mlof water extraction of spent mushroom substrate after24hours, and the activities of several extracellular and intracellular enzymes of the pathogenic fungus were inhibited.. Its normalphysiologicalactivity was affected by high concentration (400mg/ml) of spent mushroom substrate, influencing the cellmembrane permeability and intracellular physiologicaland biochemicalreactions.2. The hyphae dry weight and conidia production rate of F. oxysporm f. sp. cucumerinum were inhibited to98.5%and90.1%by water extraction of compost of spent mushroom substrate when it was treated in the concentration of400mg/ml, and the hypha growth inhibition rate is only44.1%, spent mushroom substrate affect the vegetative hyphae growth and reduction of the conidia production.3. Concentration of200mg/mlof compost of spent mushroom substrate can improve seed germination rate, but the radicle length was slightly inhibited, the high of seeding and biomass of cucumber were significantly increased by the same concentration. The seedling inoculated with F. oxysporm f. sp. cucumerinum and the disease controland prevention rate of Xia Fengl3, Zhongnongl6and Jinyan4were increased by28.6%,28.6%and33.3%, respectively. Thus, the spent mushroom substrate can be considered as a resistance to Fusarium wilt of cucumber.4. According to the pot experiment, the mix of soiland compost of spent mushroom substrate in ratio ofl:1can effectively decrease the disease incidence of Fusarium wilt of cucumber. The microbialnumbers of the substrate were increased when adding compost of spent mushroom substrate.
