There are western hilly area, northern windy desert area and micro-hilly area in west Liaoning, andthere is serious condition between utilization and conservation of soil and water resources. Thus severe soiland water loss happened in this area.This study aims to aggravated soil and water loss by wind power projects during recent years. On thebasis of analysis on soil disturbed characteristics from wind power projects, ecological benefit and loss ofsoil and water conservation was systematically assessed. Some conclusions were obtained as follows.An average of13.94~31.53ha land per wind power project was occupied in west Liaoning. Amongwhich, roads inside occupied maximal land area, followed by fan and box transformer substations area. Itshowed that it is very important to saving occupation by optimization of layout of fan and constructionprocess of projects, because disturbed range was mainly determined by roads. It also showed that occupationof projects was maximal in western hilly area, and that in northern windy desert area took second place,which dominantly greater than that in micro-hilly area.The monitoring on soil loss showed that there were three disturbed types, cumuli surface, excavatedsurface and platform, by wind power projects. The erosion modulus on cumuli surface and excavated surfacewere greater than ultra strong erosion, but platform was only moderate grade. It also showed that the newlyincreased amount of soil loss per project in western hilly area was dominantly greater than that in northernwindy desert area and micro-hilly area. Roads made a decisive role in increasing soil loss, and roadsoptimized layout was very important.Moreover, analysis on benefit and loss of soil and water conservation was done. It showed thatdisturbed land renovate rate, general harnessing degree of water and soil erosion, soil erosion control ratio,vegetation recovery rate of project were97~99%,97~99%,97~99%,1.0,95~97%and46.63~58.88%,respectively. Soil and water conservation functions of landform and vegetation were reduced because ofconstructions of wind power projects. A0.628of soil erosion impact index must be controlled if new projectsestablished.
