Rape is one of the most major oil crops, rape cultivation in China is the biggest one of the world, the output of which is almost one thirds of that of the world. However the harvesting mechanization level of rape is still below10%. There are3important problems caused by manual harvesting:large labor consumption, great labour intensity and post-harvest losses, which has become the bottleneck of China’s rapeseed industry. So the urgent need of the actual production is inventing a highly efficient and reliable windrower.The key parts of windrower is cutting system, dialing mechanism, dividing mechanism, conveying system, transmission system, placing device, hitching device and frame. One of the most difficult problems is Conveying system because the rape stalk’s complex biological characteristics. In this paper, in order to achieve swath harvesting, develop a conveying system for the rape harvest, the research was conducted as follow:(1)The rape windrower was designed based on the previous researches carried out in China and abroad. The structure and layout, working principles, operating procedures and performance parameters of the windrower were analyzed and ascertained in the present research. The focus is on parameters of structure and performance for conveying system.(2)The testing and Experimental Study was carried as to rape stalk’s Physical and Mechanical Properties, which contain the lowerstbranch height above ground, the bottom pod height, plant height, height of center of gravity, the main stalk’s diameter350mm above ground, and the maximum diameter of pod. Via materials testing, the static friction angle between rape and ordinary carbon steel or canvas was gotten. Meanwhile, filling characteristics of rape stalk were carried on.(3)A conveying system was developed, the motion curve of the stalk from contacting the machine to be placed on the field was gotten via dynamics and kinemics analysis; a geometry model of the conveying system was set up and simulated, the structure and operation parameters were optimized.(4)Field tests indicate that the4SY-1.8rape Windrower meets practical production requirement for Effective cutting, fluence and efficient transmission and, non-clogging, neat and orderly piling after placement, at the same time the placement angle, width and height suffice design request.
