E Burley tobacco No.6was used to analyze the effect of soil conditioner on the soil physicalproperties and the growth development of Burley tobacco in the field. Also the effect of soilconditioner on physiological property and leaf quality and main economic benefits of Burleytobacco was studied. The fertilizer efficiency of soil conditioner was also researched. The mainresearch conclusions were listed as follows:1. Analysed the soil physical properties after using soil conditioner, which showed that soilconditioner can decrease the soil density and improve the content of organic matter effectively;the content of available nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium with theapplication of soil conditioner increased more obviously than the contrast.2. The effect of soil conditioner on the growth development and physiological property ofBureley tobacco was studied, which showed that the application of soil conditioner can improvethe agronomic character indexes of every growth stage especially for the peak stage. Using soilconditoner can siginificantly increase the dry matter accumulation. The indexes ofphotosynthetic pigments presented the trend of “descend-asend-descend” during the wholegrowth stage. The application of soil conditioner can outstandingly increase the chlorophyllcontent and the content of carotenoid(peak~topping stage), the activity of POD in vigorousgrowing stage, the activity of SOD(rosette~topping stage). The application of soil conditoner canalso significantly improve the activity of invertase(peak~topping stage) and the activity of nitratereductase(peak~topping stage) of the burley tobacco leaves.3. The physical property and chemical indexes of the Burley tobacco leaves after curingwere analysed, which represented that the application of soil conditioner can significantlyincrease the length of the upper leaves and the leaf width as well as the univalent heavy. Usingsoil conditioner can outstandingly improve the tension of the cutters and significantly decreasethe leaf density and stalk content of the cutters and significantly increase the leaf width and the univalent heavy of the lugs. Using soil conditioner effectively raised the total sugar content,reduce sugar content, the ratio of nirogen to nicotine, the ratio of sugar to nitrogen and the ratioof potassium content to chlorine content. The application of soil conditioner can outstandinglyreduce the starch content and significantly increase the petroleum ether extract content of thecutters and the lugs, consequently making the inner chemical components more harmonious ofthe Burley tobacco leaves.4. The neutral volatile aroma content and the smoking quality of the burley tobacco leavesafter curing were analysed, which showed that the total neutral volatile aroma content appliedwith soil conditioner was higher than the contrast, the total neutral volatile aroma content(otherthan neophytadiene) with soil conditioner was higher. Plasmids pigment degradation products,Phenylalanine metabolites and the millard reaction products of the treatments using soilconditoner were higher than the contrast. The sensory taste results indicated that the sensoryquality features score, the style characteristic score and the smoke characteristic score of the soilconditioner treatment was higher than the contrast.5. The economic characteristics of Burley tobacco after curing were analysed, which wedthat the application of soil conditioner is in favour of the promotion of the economiccharacteristic indexes, using soil conditioner was able to increase the yield of burley tobacco andimprove the average price and high class proportion of tobacco leaves.6. The results of this study showed that the diversity between T2and T3treatment of thefield growth development indexes and dry matter accumulation and the physiological property ofthe tobacco leaves was not siginificant. Treatment T3was better than T2to some extent,including the physical property and chemical components, the neutral volatile aroma content, thesensory quality and the main economic benefits of the Burley tobacco leaves. The results aboveindicated that the inner quailty of T3treatment was better than other two treatments, it wasfeasible to enhance the economic benefits and decrease the fertilizer input by applying the soilconditioner.
