Tuber mustard (Brassica juncea var.tumida Tsen et Lee),a stem variety belonged toBrassica of Cruciferae plants, which originated in Sichuan Basin, had important economicvalue and research value. The mustard of Zhejiang was introduced from Sichuan Provinceat the earliest, which gradually developed into the second largest main areas of china, formed the types of spring mustard in eastern and northern Zhejiang Province and wintermustard in the southern. Wenzhou is the only suitable area for winter mustard in theZhejiang Province at present, with the interplanting pattern after late-season rice. But therewere lots of technical questions because of traditional planting in fact. Firstly, farmersdidn’t understand what effects the selection of late rice varieties had on the winter mustardas they had no good idea on late rice varieties. Secondly, the planting density of wintermustard was randomness for farmers by interplanting three lines of late rice with two linesof winter mustard, or four lines of late rice with two lines of winter mustard, which had animpact on the yield and benefit because of different choices on the planting density ofwinter mustard. Thirdly, the sowing date had a direct impact on the long of symbiosis withlate rice, which would result in virus disease, even affect yield and quality of tuber mustard.Besides, farmers increasingly pursued early-maturing mustard for high price so that theyblindly sown mustard ahead of time, which led to a series of problems, such as seriousvirus disease, low yield and so on. Finally, some other questions, such as freeze injury, hollow heart, low commercial value and so on, which all affected the plant areas andstandardized production levels of winter mustard. The research used the cultivating problems existed about interplanting with late riceas the starting point in Ruian, and we collected a large number of experimental data andmaterials about the test of sowing date, interplanting pattern and the application of growthretardant.on the winter mustard. Through the analysis of the experimental data, someresults were proved as follows: Firstly, the influence of sowing date on the yield of wintermustard was obvious, and we found that the optimum sowing date was about September10which was suitable for winter mustard in Ruian. Early sowing reduced the survival rate andcommodity value, which promoted the sprouting of lateral bud. Appropriate sowing andharvesting late would increase the yield, but they reduced the commercial quality of wintermustard. Secondly, the application of growth retardant had distinct effect on the wintermustard during stem swelling stage, and the best concentration of growth retardant was45ppm for spraying once. Thirdly, the late rice varieties and rice-vegetable area ratio hadso important effects on the yield of winter mustard that we should choose late rice withplant tall and leaf narrow. Meanwhile we found that the best interplanting pattern was threelines of late rice with two lines of winter mustard, with the suitable rice-vegetable arearatio of one to one. Fourthly, the harvest time also have an important effect on the yield of winter mustard so that we should harvest winter mustard timely according to marketconditions. We summarized some key technology and points about interplanting late ricewith winter mustard for production on the basis of experimental results, which alsoimproved standardized production levels of winter mustard and farmers’ enthusiasm togrow winter mustard with increased yield and quality, which enhanced winter mustardindustry in Ruian finally.
