Study On Lumbar Bone Mineral Density And Osteoporosis Prevalence In Middle-aged And Aged People In Huhhot

Objective To analyze the regularities and characteristics of the lumbar bone mineral density (BMD) and also the morbidity of osteoporosis (OP) within the middle-aged and aged people in Huhhot; and the current distribution of osteoporosis in the middle-aged and aged people were provided and researched. All of these results should be used for the epidemiology investigation and the colonyprevention, diagnosis and therapy of osteoporosis. Methods 1000 (500 males and 500 females) people within the ages of 45-89 in Huhhot were selected and divided into different groups. Their BMD, BMC, T-scores and Z-scores of L1-L4 lumbar were determined by the Dual energy X-rays absorptiometry (DEXA). Through analysis of these documents, the relation among the BMD of different age groups and genders was found. Results Among the people aged over 45, the BMD and T-scores decreased while the age increasing, and the trends was more significant in females (p<0.05). The morbidity of osteoporosis was significant higher in women than in men (p<0.05). The BMD of the females decreased females fast in the age of 55-79, while the males of different age groups didn’t. The correlation analysis shows that there was negative correlation between BMD with T scores and age(p<0.05), especially in women. Conclusion In middle-aged and aged people, the BMD and T-scores decreased and the morbidity of osteoporosis increased while age was increasing, especially in women within the age of 55-75. To reduce the osteoprosis occurrence,the in-depth study of the knowledge of osteoporosis prevention should be spread among the middle- aged and aged people in Huhhot.
