Objective: To investigate relevant factors for postoperative ileus followingradical resection for colorectal cancer. Methods: Data of1366colorectal cancer patients who received radical resectionin our hospital, during a period from January2000to September2011, were enrolledin this study. SPSS17.0software for windows was used for univariate analysis andmultivariate logistic regression analysis, in order to find the relevant factors ofpostoperative ileus. Results: Totally1366cases were analyzed.70of them developed postoperativeileus. Univariate analysis showed that N2、ⅢC stage、large intestine tumor resectionhistory、preoperative obstruction、preoperative anemia、laparotomy、laparoscopyconverted to open surgery、right hemicolectomy and left hemicolectomy were riskfactors for postoperative ileus following radical resection for colorectal cancer andT1、N0、Ⅰ stage、laparoscopic operation and low anterior resection for the rectalcarcinoma were protective factor for postoperative ileus following radical resectionfor colorectal cancer. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that N2、largeintestine tumor resection history、 preoperative obstruction、right hemicolectomy andleft hemicolectomy were risk factors for postoperative ileus following radicalresection for colorectal cancer and laparoscopic operation was protective factor forpostoperative ileus following radical resection for colorectal cancer. Conclusions: Postoperative ileus following radical resection for colorectalcancer was closely related to surgical procedures. Laparoscopic colorectal resectioncan reduce the incidence of postoperative ileus.
