Purpose:To assess the long-term clinic effect (3-6.25years) of Verisyse iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) for the correction of high myopia.Methods:Long-term (more than3years) retrospective follow-up study.40eyes of20patients who underwent Verisyse PIOL implantation for the correction of high myopia, Comparisons were made between preoperative clinical data and the clinical data at1month and mean4.5years postoperation.Results:Efficiency:85%(34eyes) reached a UCVA of0.5or better,52.5%(21eyes) reached a UCVA of0.8or better;100%(40eyes) gained a BSCVA of0.5or better,80%(32eyes) gained a BSCVA of0.8or better. The mean spherical equivalent (SE) at4.5years was-0.34diopters (D; range,0~-1.25D). Compare UCVA (t=15.73, p=0.00), BSCVA (t=6.52, p=0.00) and the mean SE (t=19.70, p=0.00) between properation and4.5years postoperation, there has significant changes respectively. Predictability:70%(28eyes) UCVA reached same or more Snellen lines of BSCVA of preoperation and12.5%(5eyes) lost more than2Snellen lines of BSCVA of preoperation; with no significant change between them (1=1.67, p=0.87). The mean SE (t=0.25, p=0.8), UCVA (t=0.70, p=0.49) and BSCVA (t=1.71, p=0.10) were no significant changes respectively between1month and4.5years. Safety:The mean ECD was2701.67±104.84cell/mm2in27eyes had not complications, The mean astigmatism at4.5years was1.31±0.67D, with no significant changes respectively compare with ECD in normal high myopia eyes and The mean astigmatism preoperation. The PIOL dislocated in4eyes of3patients,3eyes of3patients because of blunt trauma were resolved by repositioned and reenclavated and1eye because of childbirth resolved by removed the PIOL. Papillary block glaucoma happened in leye several hours postoperation, resolved by peripheral iridectomy. The PIOL was down located in6eyes, we had not noticed opposite changes in these eyes.Conclusion:Long-term results demonstrate that the implantation of a Verisyse PIOL for the correction of high myopia is a stable, predictable, and safe method, long term clinic effect is stable. The ECD in most patients was in normal range and there were no happening of long-term and severe complication which is related to the implantation of PIOL...
