Sanguisorba Radix is the dried roots of Sanguisorba officinalis L. or Sanguisorbaofficinalis L. var. longifolia (Bert). Yü et Li., which are the perennial herbs of the Rosaceae. In Sanguisorba genus, there are about30kinds of species over the world, which are widelydistributed in Northeast, Sourtheast and north China. Sanguisorba Radix as one of thewell-known Chinese traditional medicines, was first recorded in“Shen Nong’s HerbalClassic”, has effects of hemostatic, antipyretic detoxicate, subsiding swelling efficacy. Inclinical application, it is used for the treatment of children with typhoid fever, tuberculousabscess, chronic osteomyelitis, burns, eczema and menopausal uterine bleeding, etc.As early as the1960s, this herb was studied by scholars from various countries. Withthe development of extraction, isolation and structure identification technology, scholarsfound a variety of chemical constituents in the genus, including tannins, triterpenoids, flavonoids, anthraquinones, steroids, etc. Pharmacological studies have shown that tannins, triterpenoid saponins and flavonoids are active substances with special physiologicalactivities, such as hemostatic effect, anti-inflammatory action, antibacterial action, antitumoraction, antioxidation and antiallergic effect, etc. At present, there are few research reportsabout hemostatic activity of saponins. In order to develop and make use of Sanguisorbaofficinalis L. better and provide scientific data for the traditional Chinese medicinemodernization, this experiments mainly studied the saponins in the roots of Sanguisorbaofficinalis L., including:1. The review on the latest research progress in chemical constituents, pharmacologicalactivity and clinical application of Sanguisorba officinalis L.2. The isolation and structural identification of the saponins. The roots of Sanguisorba officinalis L. as the raw material, were extracted with water, isolated with the silica gel column chromatography、ODS column chromatography andHPLC. At last, four known triterpenoid saponins were obtained, they are3β-[(α-L-arabinopyranosyl)oxy]-19α-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid28-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester(Ⅰ), ziyu-glycosi Ⅰ (Ⅱ),3β,19α-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid28-β-D-glucopyrans-yl ester (Ⅲ),3β,19α-dihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid28-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester(Ⅳ),and compound Ⅲ was isolated from the genus for the first time.
