Background:Antidepressant-induced switching (AIS) is one of the difficulties of the treatment of depression. The causes of AIS have significant relationships with the antidepressant types, family history, and personality characters before attacking. There are a few domestic and overseas researches on personality, which are only simply description without the systemic assessment in standardize scales. We attempt to report the correlation between the AIS and personality characteristics with the more impeccable scale.Methods:103depression patients were selected with the CCMD-3to accept a three-month antidepressant treatment next to assessment with the Temperament Scale. The scores of scale were compared to find the difference of switching and non-switching patients in temperament. Results:There were27switching cases occupying26.2%of all after the three-month treatment. Melancholy and phlegmatic scores of switching patients were significantly lower than nonswitchings. There were significant negative correlationships between melancholy/phlegmatic temperament and the scores of the YMRS, equally the HAMD change. Melancholy and phlegmatic scores were significant negative correlated each other in switching cases. Conclusion:Our study demonstrated that personality characteristic has established forecasting effection in the AIS. Depression patients with melancholy or phlegmatic temperament were significantly more difficult to switch to mania compared with other two temperaments type patients.
