Background and purposeGastric cancer is a common malignancy in China.Apart from Japan, most countries of the world do not have to carry out gastric screening, which led to the majority of patients with gastric cancer in the late phase of disease when it was diagnosed.According to the report of the American College of Surgeon and the Cancer Society,the5-year survival of advanced gastric cancer is only7%, and the prognosis is poor. Liver metastases of gastric cancer is special, the research suggests, serum CEA, CA199levels in patients with gastric cancer liver metastases is significantly increased, which helps to find the metastasis and recurrence earlier than imaging examinations.Another study showed that positive surgical resection for some gastric cancer liver metastasis patients can improve their prognosis. Therefore, the detection of serum levels of CEA, and CA199levels for these patients has important clinical significance. The distribution law of serum carcinoembryonic antigen and CA199in patients with liver metastases of gastric cancer, and how to select the appropriate treatment according to their serum levels of CEA, and CA199level is the focus of clinical research. This study aimed to explore the law of distribution of serum carcinoembryonic antigen and CA199in patients with liver metastases of gastric cancer, and related literature was reviewed to explore its clinical significance. MethodIn this study, we collected158cases of advanced gastric cancer patients. They were grouped by according to whether having the liver metastases and their serum CEA, CA199levels and positive rates were calculated and analyzed by SPSS17.The patients wers also grouped by according to gender, age and whether having ascites, accordlying, their serum CEA, CA199levels and positive rates were calculated and analyzed by SPSS17,too.ResultsSerum CEA and CA199levels in patients with liver metastases was significantly increased, and their average were78.5±118.3ng/ml and256.2±391.5u/ml, and with statistical meaning(P=0.027and0.045), independent of age, gender and with or without ascites. The positive rates of serum CEA and CA199were78.3%and56.5%, which were elevated, and statistically significant (P=0.011and0.002), independent of age, gender and wither having ascites. The levels of serum CEA and CA199of5cases with metachronous live metastases had continued to rise and sustained1.8-5.4months before their live metastases were found.ConclusionThe levels and positive rates of serum CEA and CA199were higher in gastric cancer patients with liver metastases, independent of age, gender and wither having ascites. For the patients who had received resection of gastric cancer, detecting their levels of serum CEA and CA199helps to find their liver metastases earlier.
