Objective:To investigate the significance of the combination of two serum tumor markers(LDH,β2-MG) in predicting survival of NHL patients and its correlation with clinical parameters. Methods:From January2008to August2011,429patients with NHL were diagnosed in ShanXi Tumor Hospital. The serum levels of LDH and (32-MG were measured by rate method and immunoturbidimetry. Besides, The clinical reference of the patients such as gender, age,B symptoms, clinical stages, extranodal sites and KPS were summarized and grouped. All patients’ survival status was achieved via phone and letter. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS program for Windows (version16.0).Results:1The levels of LDH and β2-MG in age,B symptom, the advanced stage, extranodal sites≥2, KPS were obviously higher than their comparison counterpart and the difference was significant (P<0.001). LDH level of invasive lymphoma was significantly higher than that of indolent ones(P=0.002),but it’s no difference in the β2-MG level(P=0.937). There were no statistical significance about LDH and (32-MG levels in gender and cell type(P>0.05).2In the429NHL patients, the median of LDH was209U/L(156U/L-291U/L),and the median of β2-MG was1.9mg/L(1.4mg/L-3.3mg/L).There exists a linear trend between LDH and β2-MG, the Spearman correlation coefficient rs=0.362(P<0.001).3Overall survival rates were different between the abnormal LDH group and the normal LDH group (x2=119.029,P<0.001).Overall survival rates were different between the elevated β2-MG group and the normal β2-MG group(x2=104.733,P<0.001).4Overall survival rates were different between the age≤60and the age>60group (x2=59.22, P<0.001), Overall survival rates were different between the no B symptoms group and B symptoms group (x2=15.768, P<0.001), Overall survival rates were different between the Ⅰ-Ⅱ and the Ⅲ-Ⅳ stage (x2=86.542, P<0.001), Overall survival rates were different between the extranodal sites<2and the sites≥2(x2=46.483, P<0.001), Overall survival rates were different between the KPS≤70and the KPS>70group (x2=47.576, P<0.001), Overall survival rates were different between the indolent group and the invasive group(x2=7.475, P=0.006).5Multivariate analysis in Cox regression showed that LDH, β2-MG,age,clinical stages, extranodal sites, KPS and aggressive were independent prognostic factors. These seven partial regression coefficients are positive, and these results hints that these factors influence the risk of death in NHL patients.Conclusion:1The serum level of LDH and β2-MG had no significant difference with gender and cell type. Both of them had significant difference with age, B symptoms, clinical stages, extranodal sites and KPS. LDH had higher level in aggressive lymphoma than indolent one.But it’s no difference in the β2-MG level.2A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the LDH and β2-MG (rs=0.362, P<0.001).3The median survival time for high level of LDH and β2-MG is obviously shorter than normal group.4The level of serum LDH and β2-MG can be taken as an auxiliary clinical index to evaluate the prognosis of the NHL patients.
