Arteriosclerosis is one of the common diseases in the elderly. With theadvent of the elderly people increases with age., the number of patients withdementia an increasing number each year, which is hard to deal with and maybrought heavy burden to society and people’s living conditions. According tothe China Medical Association to provide data, the world die each year fromthe number of patients with Alzheimer’s about600million people, and thissituation is presented a more substantial upward trendevery year, whichserious threat to human health and life. Vascular dementia, a clear cause tofollow, in recent years has become a hot issue of research in the field ofneurology. In particular, the prevention and treatment of dementia early cancontrol vascular risk factors, can improve patients’ quality of life and prolonglife. Carotid atherosclerosis is an important independent risk factors forcerebrovascular disease, the relationship between vascular cognitive impairm-ent has become a hot research in recent years. This article related to neuropsychological examination and ultrasoundexamination to further explore the correlation of carotid atherosclerosis andvascular cognitive impairment. This study selected118cases of hospital in2009December to2012hospitalized with ischemic cerebrovascular disease patients (eg, cerebralinsufficiency, the TIA, cerebral infarction, etc.), including77cases of male andfemale41cases. The selected cases of patients with ischemic cerebrovasculardisease diagnosis is based on the use of the Fourth China Medical Association1995National Conference of cerebrovascular disease amendments of varioustypes of cerebrovascular disease diagnostic criteria ". After admission, patients were within24-48hours of expert head CT or head MRI and neck vascularcolor Doppler ultrasound and other auxiliary examinations after diagnosis. Andselected patients in stable condition, a clear sense of vision and hearing arenormal, with the completion of inspection. Underwent a neuropsychologicalexamination and carotid artery ultrasound, and clinical data collection andlaboratory tests. All data SPSS19.0package for statistical analysis ofmeasurement data±s, t-test comparison between two groups. Count data usingthe x2test differences. All tests are p <0.05was considered statisticallysignificance.Result:Studies have shown that the study group of atherosclerotic plaqueformation was significantly increased to control group, the difference wasstatistically significant (p <0.05). Carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT)values of the study group was significantly greater than the control group, thedifference was statistically significant (p <0.05). Carotid artery stenosis of thestudy group was significantly greater than the control group, the difference wasstatistically significant (p <0.05). MoCA Scale score of the patients withischemic cerebrovascular disease with different degrees of carotidatherosclerosis show, whether each score or the total score of the greater carotidatherosclerosis was lower, the difference was statistically significant (p <0.05).Conclusion:Associated with cognitive impairment and normal cognitive functioncompared: carotid atherosclerosis birth rate was significantly higher than inpatients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease; IMT was significantlyincreased; the relative importance of vascular stenosis. Different degree ofcarotid atherosclerosis in the sub-decile and the total score of MoCA scale, thedegree of carotid atherosclerosis in serious cases the lesser scores relatively low.Comprehensive prompted vascular cognitive impairment is closely related to carotid atherosclerosis and carotid atherosclerosis in the heavier, the moresevere cognitive impairment.
