Objective: To explore the characteristics of neuro-endocrine and psychological changein vitiligo patients and its differences among active and stable stages. Methods: fiftyvitiligo patients were selected as study group which is included twenty five active stageand twenty five stable stage patients, and another thirty healthy people as control group.The concentration of corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH), adrenocorticotropichormone (ACTH) and cortisol (Cort) level in the three groups was detected.All of themcompleted the common questionnaire about anxiety, depression-scale (SAS, SDS, HAMA,and HRSD). Results: stable and active stage vitiligo patient’s cortisol levels significantlyincreased than normal group (P<0.05), and also have distinct differences between thestable and active vitiligo patients (P<0.05), among the vitiligo two different groups haveno statistical differences in ACTH and CRH levels (P>0.05).Vitiligo patients comparedwith normal people have apparently anxiety and depressive symptoms (P<0.05) activestage of vitiligo patients have more prominent. Conclusion: Among vitiligo patients HPAaxis’s function change with the stage of the disease as well as the changing of surroundingenvironment. This study implicated HPA axis is an important causative factor in vitiligo,also the result indicated the importance of the psychological intervention in treatment ofvitiligo.
