[Objective]:Through the summary of the clinical manifestation of different syndromes of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) in Functional constipation (FC).The research aims to explore the regularity of syndrome distribution, and further analyze the correlation of FC syndromes with age, gender, course, dietetic habits,so that provide evidence to scientific research.【Methods】:We combined the literature-researching and clinical investigation. Literature research:we studied the etiology、pathogenesis、syndromes、treatment of TCM and also the pathogenic mechanism、diagnostic-therapeutic advancement based upon large quantities of literature-reading. Clinical investigation:The data of patients’symptoms and signs are got through four diagnostic methods and data base is established by applying epidemiologic methods. Descriptive statistics and Kruskal-Wallis are used for statistic purpose, and the regularity of syndrome is summed up as well as the relationship of syndromes with age, gender, course, dietetic habits.[Results]:1. Ratio of male and female patient is1:1.76, with the age from11to75, mean age is54.49±13.79years old, where the highest proportion is from the group of45-59years, followed by the group of60-89years.2. Emotions and tiredness are the most common pathogenic factors.3. Symptoms such as difficult defecation, prolonged defecation, dry stool, abdominal distention are commonly seen.4. The two syndromes of qi stagnation, qi deficiency of spleen and stomach are more frequent.5. The difference of the syndrome-distribution at the two genders, ages, dietetic habits, incetives have statistical significance.6. Difference of syndrome-distribution at different courses has no statistical significance.[Conclusion]:The two syndromes of "qi stagnation "and "qi deficiency of spleen and stomach " are most commonly seen among them. Middle-aged person have a high morbidity. The distribution of the syndromes can be influenced by the age, gender, dietetic habits, incentives.
